Ipeh Nur Hanifah

Indonesia

Ipeh Nur Hanifah was born in 1993, Indonesia. Graduated from Printmaking Department of Indonesian Institute of Art, Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

Salimah is a series of work inspired by Intan Paramadhita’s storiette, entitled Goyang Penasaran (Curious Wiggle) and included in a book Kumpulan Budak Setan (Devil’s Slave), 2010. Goyang Penasaran took Salimah as a main role in the story, a dangdut singer who faced a negative stigma within the religious society for being a dangdut singer. Dangdut is a genre of Indonesian folk and traditional popular music that is partly derived from Hindustani, Malay, and Arabic music, and for koplo-dangdut female singer oven shows erotic dance in a sexy outfit.
Ipeh Nur’s work is usually related to personal experience, such as anxiety, fear, cynicism, skepticism, about her own life experience or just responding to problems that occur around her. She loves the dramatic visuals. Creating interaction within the work, using objects outside the narrative, as if someone were responding to the image in the works.
